Fading house
We went, the other week, to my partner’s grandfather’s house. He is in a home, and it had been rented out – the tenants had just left, and we were supposed to check that they hadn’t emptied the contents of the loft.
There was something very sad about the place. He was a very proud man, a carpenter by training, and he’d taken great care of the house and garden while he was fit and active. He went downhill quite rapidly when his wife died in 2005, they were married for 70 years. Now it’s degrading, the garden is overgrown and bits are breaking and coming to pieces. The décor looks very dated and old.
We left baby Ruby on the floor to babble as we checked the place over.
